The event will take place on Thursday December 2nd at 6:15pm in NAB 2.04 and will feature a brief introduction by Dr Ambrose, followed by refreshments kindly provided by WECH.

It will be a relatively informal event, so please come along, meet fellow members of the society and have some fun!

As we start a new year off, we are looking to create a new logo and a tagline that can be associated with the Social Policy Society! Since we have such an amazing, diverse group of people in the society, we thought it best that we reach out to you guys first! We are looking for two things:

1) A New Logo. Use your imagination! We need something fun and creative, that captures the spirit of the social policy society. The logo that we end up choosing will be gracing all of our advertising and marketing for the year and will be the foundation for our new banners!

2) A New Tagline. We’re also looking for a new tagline/motto that also captures the essence of the society’s goals and objectives as well as the spirit of social policy. Since it’s a tagline, it can’t be too long — we’re looking for something clever and intriguing!

If you have any thoughts or questions/comments on either of these areas, please email us with your creations!
We’re hoping to have something ready to go by November so we can get our marketing materials dispersed.

The trip to WECH on the 21st has been moved to the 28th of October in lieu due to a bit of a clash with a Social Policy department event. We wanted the trip to be accessible to as many people as possible, so mark your calendars if this is something that interests you!

The trip takes us to Walterton & Elgin Community Homes, a housing association about which Professor Anne Power said, “… the efforts of ordinary people to gain control of their lives are indeed the watershed in making cities and communities work ” (Against the Odds, 1998). There will be a talk by the Chief Executive about the history of WECH and a tour including visiting some residents in their homes as well as a visit to a newly refurbished home under WECH’s long-term refurbishment programme.
